Anxiety is an ongoing sense of fear or nervousness and disrupts life in many ways. Anxiety can impact your social interaction, ability to complete tasks and focus, cause sleep disruption, induce panic attacks, cause health issues including hypertension, IBS, heart disease and more. Anxiety makes it difficult to live a life the life that you want to because of the worry and tension involved.
However there are practices and skills that help manage anxiety. These include meditation/mindfulness, guided visualization, tapping and deep breathing.
Beyond managing the anxiety however through skills, it is necessary to address what is causing the anxiety, which is generally limiting thought patterns and beliefs and/or trauma. For instance, anxiety causes people to worry and predict into the future, imagining worst case scenarios. And trauma disrupts the nervous system, causing a person to essentially be in “fight flight mode” most of the time.
This is why learning to understand contributing thought patterns coupled with learning skills to restore the nervous system (after being disrupted by trauma) are both important in the treatment of anxiety.
Kelly is skilled in many techniques to help with both the thought/belief system and the nervous system. Please contact her for a consultation to discuss how she can help you.
